In 1999, Mariska Breland was not feeling well. She never felt well. She began looking for reasons behind it, and embarked on a journey into alternative forms of health and healing that has led her to some of the nation's leaders in alternative medicine.  

After finally being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in her mid-twenties, Mariska began exploring alternative medicine. Mariska is a self-declared “professional guinea pig” who has personally experimented with:

Through years of trial and error, Mariska concluded that health came down to finding the fusion of diet, exercise and alternative therapies that worked for her at that time. Days, seasons, and symptoms differ, and so do the treatments for them.

Mariska is an avid yoga practitioner and Certified Pilates Instructor. She teaches pilates at Flow Yoga Center in Washington, D.C. (www.flowyogacenter.com) and leads holistic health workshops throughout the Washington, D.C. area.   She also sees clients for individual health counseling.

Mariska is certified through Power Pilates of New York City and is a graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, where she studied diet theory with Drs. Andrew Weil, Deepak Chopra, Barry Sears and literally dozens of other leaders in holistic health.  She is a certified Holistic Health Counselor through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

Mariska is also an award-winning video and event creative director. She has written and produced videos for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Virginia Department of Health, CBS and Discovery Health Channel, and she worked on both the Tour of Hope and the National Race for the Cure.
